Mark brings over 20 years experience in the water industry to Celtic Anglian Water.

NTR’s Irish based waste water treatment joint venture Celtic Anglian Water (CAW), has experienced another year of significant growth, increasing revenues by €12.9 million, principally from engineering works to reduce odour emissions at its Wastewater Treatment Plant located in Ringsend, Dublin.

During the year, CAW focused on cost reductions, particularly in relation to energy consumption as the Ringsend Plant increases its production of self-generated power converted from methane Biogas.

CAW has a strong pipeline of projects tendered for Design, Build, Operate (DBO) Water & Wastewater Treatment Plants, although the sector expects some slowdown in the awarding of new contracts through the National Development Plan as the Irish State faces its largest budget deficit for decades.

The business is actively exploring new revenue streams, particularly linked to the digestion of organic waste. Digestion is a key area of expertise for the business and with many synergies with the waste sector, particularly NTR’s sustainable waste management business, Greenstar, this is an exciting area for growth and development both in the UK and Ireland. Development of a disposal route for energy recovery from sewer-fat and commercial interceptor waste for Dublin and the re-use of final effluent to supply industrial water to neighbouring premises in Dublin’s Port-South, are also priority projects for development in the years ahead.

CAW recycles over 45 thousand tonnes of biofert and biocake to agricultural land across ireland each year, ensuring essential nutrients and minerals are returned to the soils. CAW produces power required to run its waste water treatment plant in ringsend, dublin by harvesting the methane biogas from its sludge digestion process.
